KalaStree - "Heritage by her"
Hi, I’m Mishu — a PhD researcher, author, and women empowerment advocate passionate about preserving India’s cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities for women through technology and innovation. My research combines FinTech, women empowerment, and GI-tagged products to explore how traditional women artisans can grow in the digital economy.
I strongly believe that the hands creating India’s heritage deserve global recognition, financial independence, and access to modern digital tools. Through my work, I aim to connect traditional craftsmanship with the future of financial technology and women-led entrepreneurship.
My research focuses on empowering women artisans associated with GI-tagged products by improving their access to FinTech services, digital marketplaces, financial literacy, and online business opportunities. Many women involved in traditional art forms and handmade industries still face challenges such as limited market access, financial dependency, lack of digital awareness, and inadequate infrastructure.
Through this research, I study how digital payments, online platforms, mobile banking, AI-based financial tools, and financial inclusion policies can help women artisans become financially independent and globally connected. My work also highlights the importance of preserving India’s traditional arts while creating sustainable livelihoods for women.
My research is based on the theme:
“Empowering Women with FinTech Access in GI-Tagged Product Ecosystems.”
This research explores the relationship between women empowerment, financial technology, and India’s GI-tagged heritage industries such as Madhubani painting, handicrafts, handloom products, tribal arts, and traditional rural enterprises.
The study focuses on understanding how women artisans can benefit from digital financial systems including UPI payments, e-commerce platforms, microfinance, digital banking, and financial education programs. It also examines the real-life challenges faced by women working in GI-tagged sectors, including poor infrastructure, lack of financial awareness, low digital accessibility, and limited market exposure.
The goal of this research is to develop practical and inclusive solutions that can help women artisans preserve traditional heritage while achieving financial independence, social recognition, and sustainable economic growth in the digital era. Through field studies, policy analysis, case studies, and community-based research, this work aims to support women-led development and strengthen India’s cultural economy through technology-driven empowerment.
